Magam – The Magnificent (0.00 Leo – 13.20 Leo) is the star Regulus, ruled by the Planet Ketu, from the Leo constellation. The Makam Nakshatra blesses the people born under it with royal status. They will be born leaders with authority and social respect, strongly inclined towards upholding traditional beliefs. She carries the power that comes with royal status. Her attributes are the rat, pigeon, and the majestic banyan tree.

Of the noble people born under Magha, it is Karna from the Mahabharata who has an interesting story. On his death in the Kurukshetra battlefield, he attained his heavenly abode. Upon his arrival, he was astonished to see that he was served food made out of gold. The Gods informed him that he was served Gold, as he had only made offerings of Gold to his Pitris (Ancestors). Karna asks that he be sent back to earth for 15 days during which he offered real food to his ancestors. The Pitru Paksha observance in September is us following the same to offer food to our ancestors.
