Pooram (13.20 Leo – 26.40 Leo) is an earthly nakshatra, ruled by the alluring Venus. Natives of Pooram develop attractive personalities and easily sway people. They are always blessed with good fortune, ruled by the demi-god Bhagya. Pooram natives are wanderers, inclined to the natural life, yet stay loyal for life. Andal, the consort of Mahavishnu, was born under the Pooram Nakshatra in Srivilliputhur in Tamil Nadu. Periya Alwar an ardent devotee of Vishnu was childless. He prayed that he be blessed with a child. One day he found a baby by a Tulasi plant in the temple garden. He named the child Kothai, and she grew up worshipping Krishna. Vishnu appeared in Periya Alwar’s dream and asked him to dedicate a garland by the hands of Kothai. She had already worn the garland herself. When she garlanded the deity, Vishnu turned to pure Gold. Since then the garland of Andal from Sri Villiputthur is sent to the Tirumala Venkateshwara temple during the month of Purataasi.
