Purva Bhadrapada / Puruttathi

Narasimha was an avatar of Lord Vishnu, manifested to vanquish the Asura Hiranyakashipu. He was the father of Prahlad, an ardent devotee of Vishnu. He had a unique boon that he could be killed by no man or animal, neither during the day or during the night, inside or outside, or by any weapon animate or inanimate. Vishnu took the form of a lion headed man and killed Hiranyakashipu at twilight, with his nails, on the doorstep of his palace, laying him on his lap, nullifying all the conditions of the boon.
